Having become very well known throughout China as a soccer
commentator, Huang Jianxiang has quit China Central Television
(CCTV) where he earned fame but was also involved in controversy.
Senior CCTV officials have confirmed the news saying Huang had
completed the necessary procedures to end his employment. Jiang
Heping, head of the CCTV sports department, denied Huang's
departure had anything to do with his recent biased comments made
during a match between Italy and Australia at the FIFA 2006 World
Cup in June.
While most media are still guessing as to where Huang will now
go some Shanghai reports yesterday suggested that Huang was likely
to be employed as the sports programming channel director with
Oriental Satellite TV.
Huang is known as an energetic and spontaneous commentator who's
popular among many Chinese soccer fans.
However, he landed himself in hot water after being unable to
contain his excitement during the match between Italy and
Australia. Failing to control his feelings he erupted in joy and
lost his objectivity showing his true colors as an Italian fan when
the country won.
