Chinese director Jia Zhangke gave a lecture to 350 filmmakers in
Berlin as the president of the Berlinale Talent Campus held by the
youth forum at this year's ongoing Berlin Film Festival.
On the theme of "Local Movies Accepted Globally," Jia took his
Golden Bear-winning movie Still Life as an example of
expressing that though our culture are different, the messages
delivered by movies cross terroritorial lines.
The Berlinale Talent Campus recruits young directors online. All
aspiring filmmakers can apply to join by submitting a one- or
five-minute short film.
The year's campus selected 350 young filmmakers from 4,000
applicants, inviting them to communicate with filmmaking mentors
led by Jia Zhangke.
Four directors will jointly shoot a short film under the
guidance of mentors. Others can choose courses to attend given by
mentors.
Last year's five students from the Berlinale Talent Campus shot
a short film to compete for the Berlin Today award at the festival
this year.
