Xie Dong, a former pop singer famous for his song The Smiling Face, has been taken into custody by Beijing police for drug offences.

Beijing Times reports that Beijing police raided Xie Dong's home in Shijingshan district on Saturday evening after receiving an anonymous tip-off. Illegal drugs were found in a drawer near Xie's computer.

On-site tests confirmed Xie Dong was under the influence of the drug "ice", or methamphetamine, as well as speed, or "wagging head pills", a drug that leads users into an extreme form of ecstasy.

Xie Dong's girlfriend was also taken into custody by police, after also testing positive for ice.

Xie was one of the country's most pop stars back in the '90s after releasing the hugely popular song The Smiling Face. Sadly his career has dwindled in recent years.
