A Beijing procuratorate initiated on Wednesday a public prosecution
against Chinese rock star Dou Wei on a charge of vandalizing
property, the
Legal Evening News reported.
According to media reports, Dou went to the Beijing
News office on May 10, 2006, accusing a reporter surnamed Zhuo
of faking news reports about his life and his wife.
Having failed to find the reporter, the angry singer allegedly
demolished several computers and a television set, poured water on
editors and then set fire to a car parked in front of the
newspaper's office building.
The singer was detained by police the same day and bailed two
weeks later.
After the statutory 12-month bail term ended, the procuratorate
brought an accusation against Dou to a court.
According to legal procedures, the court will summon Dou to
receive the indictment and attend trial.
