Phoenix Satellite Television (US) Inc. announced on Wednesday
that its North America Chinese Channel has started broadcasting on
Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey.
The most influential Chinese television service is now available
via Time Warner Cable to the densely concentrated Chinese
communities in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Mount
Vernon, Hudson Valley in New York, and Bergen and Husdon counties
in New Jersey.
The addition of Phoenix TV to Time Warner Cable's greater New
York area will bring high quality Chinese television programming
primarily in Mandarin to help improve understanding of Chinese
culture and the cultural exchanges between China and the United
States.
Wu Xiaoyong, CEO of Phoenix Satellite Television (U.S.) Inc.,
told a press conference on Wednesday that his company's objective
has always been to bring the Chinese throughout the world closer
via television.
Since Phoenix television was first launched in North America in
2000, the channel is now the most influential Chinese television
service in the United States, Canada and South America, he
said.
"Most Chinese feel that they can associate themselves with our
channel because we really care about issues concerning China and
Chinese, and we report on these issues in an objective and timely
way in various programs," Wu added.
"Offering Phoenix TV is another way for Time Warner Cable to
help connect customers conveniently with news and information from
around the world, ultimately enhancing their home entertainment
experience," said Bob Watson, vice president for programming of
Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey.
Besides satellite delivery, Phoenix attaches great importance to
working with cable and IPTV companies so that Chinese in whatever
location or housing accommodation can easily access Phoenix
television service. By now, Phoenix, with its parent company based
in Hong Kong, has more than 200,000 subscribers and the number
continues to increase rapidly on the continent of America.
Time Warner Cable of New York and Jersey serves over 1.4 million
customers in the region, and its parent company, Time Warner Cable,
owns and manages cable systems passing approximately 26 million
homes in 33 states in the country.
