Nights. The film is likely to hit Chinese mainland screens at
the end of December.
"During the National Day holiday we had a talk with director
Wong to check the film's distribution and screening schedule," said
Wang Tianyu, vice president of Shanghai Film Group Corp.
Wang revealed that it should be a good timing for the movie as
its dreamy romantic themes would conform to the festive ambience
around the New Year.
As director Wong's first full English-language feature, the
movie stars Grammy Award-winner Norah Jones, Rachel Weisz, Jude Law
and Natalie Portman. Set against New York's magical cityscape and
the vistas of America's legendary Route 66, the romance centers on
a young woman who sets out on an unforgettable journey of discovery
in pursuit of true love. It also opened this year's Cannes Film
Festival.
Wang said that the star-studded cast, including Jones and Law,
would probably arrive in town to promote the film. However, the
December screening also means that the movie faces box-office
competition with Feng Xiaogang's war epic The Assembly and
Peter Chan's action film The Warlords.
"I believe director Wong's signature elegance and originality
can guarantee the movie to enchant moviegoers, especially young
lovers during that season," said movie buff Li Wei, an IT
salesman.
