The latest Super Girl star, Shang Wenjie, released her first album,
Beneath Van Gogh's Starry Sky, on Monday.
The 24-year-old singer was carried by a rickshaw to the premiere
ceremony held in her hometown of Shanghai.
She said the old-time Shanghai vehicle related to the old
Shanghai jazz in her album.
Shang released her first offering, an EP titled, A La Claire
Fontaine, in June. Recording for her second album is scheduled
to kick off next month.
The French language major from Shanghai's prestigious Fudan
University was eliminated twice when she tried to impress judges at
last year's Super Girl singing competition, a contest similar to
American Idol.
She signed up for a third time and was a dark horse as her
singing skills kept improving during the competition. She
eventually won the competition.
