Janet Jackson will be replaced by Mariah Carey on the program of Saturday Night Live this weekend due to Jackson's illness, according to media reports Thursday.

Jackson's representative Patti Webster stated on Tuesday that Jackson is currently suffering from the flu. Her illness was so severe she checked into a Los Angeles hospital, suffering from shortness of breath.

Jackson had been scheduled to perform in support of her most recent album "Discipline," which debuted atop the charts last week.

The "All For You" songstress plans to tour later this year, and also is co-writing a dieting book, expected to hit shelves by the end of the year.

"SNL" bosses have now confirmed Carey, 37, will serve as the musical guest on Saturday's show, which will be guest hosted by "Superbad" star Jonah Hill.

It's Carey's first appearance on the sketch comedy series in over 10 years. Her last appearance came on Nov. 15, 1997.

The singer's latest album, "E=MC2," is due for release on April 15.
