The alternative music scene is getting hotter with multi-platinum bands. California-based Incubus will perform tomorrow and Maroon 5, another West Coast favorite in China, takes the stage next Saturday.
Pop music-wise, Shanghai is one of the most happening places in the world this month. Two screaming nights are in store - California-based rock/pop bands, Incubus and Maroon 5, are on their way.
Grammy-nominated alternative rock band Incubus will perform at the Yunfeng Theater on Beijing Road tomorrow, as part of their "Light Grenades" world tour this year. Named after their sixth and latest studio album, the concert is their debut in Shanghai.
"I can't tell you enough how excited we are to finally come (to China)," says vocalist Brandon Boyd. "We look forward to sharing music and art and ideas with the Chinese audience. Our shows are very interactive experiences around the world, so I am hoping that in China it will be the same."
The current five-piece band was formed back in 1991 in the California suburbs when Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar) and Jose Pasillas (drums) were 10th-grade classmates. Since then, the band has reached multi-platinum sales with albums such as "Make Yourself," "Morning View" and "A Crow Left of the Murder."
Released in November 2006, "Light Grenades" reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling more than 165,000 copies in the United States.
"We started the band out of a collective fascination with music," Boyd recalls. "We were very lucky to have grown up in an environment that was littered with music and art.
"We started at age 15 and were just doing our best to hack away at our respective instruments, show off when necessary, and play completely from the waist down," he continues.
