Ice shrinks at Bohai, north Yellow Sea

Sea ice alerts for China's Bohai Sea and the northern parts of Yellow Sea were canceled Saturday after the ice shrank, State Oceanic Administration officials said.

"The sea ice in the Bohai and Yellow seas will continue to shrink over the next five days," said Shang Jie, an official with the North China Sea Marine Forecasting Center of State Oceanic Administration.
According to the center, at 4 p.m. Saturday, the maximum outer edge of ice floating in the Bohai Sea's Liaodong Bay was 73 nautical miles, 21 nautical miles less than last Sunday.
Ice in northern Yellow Sea, meanwhile, shrank to 10 nautical miles Saturday, down 15 nautical miles, the Center added.
The forecast also said that over the next five days, the maximum outer edge of the floating ice in Liaodong Bay will shrink to between 60 and 70 nautical miles, while that in northern Yellow Sea will shrink to around 5 nautical miles.
