More rainy and windy weather is expected as a tropical depression moves into the city to be followed by a severe tropical storm, weatherman said yesterday.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said three tropical systems have been observed to affect China, namely two tropical storms, Lion Rock formed above the South China Sea and Kompasu from the northwest Pacific, and a tropical depression from northeast Taiwan.
Under the influence of the outer cyclones of the tropical depression, Shanghai's coastal areas were hit by torrential rain yesterday morning. At least a dozen flights at Pudong International Airport were affected.
Meteorological officials in the Pudong New Area and Fengxian District issued a yellow rain storm alert, third highest of the four-level system, at 7:50am and 8:30am, which was later upgraded to orange and red, respectively, at 10:20am and 10:30am. The maximum precipitation in Pudong and Fengxian was measured at 127.6 and 142.3 millimeters yesterday.
The weather will mainly be overcast and rainy over the next two days and temperatures should remain stable, ranging from 26 to 31 degrees.
