The exhibition, co-hosted by 12 Chinese ministries and commissions, has brought together 212 world-renowned enterprises with advanced technologies, products and applications on display.
They will exchange views on green technology and seek business opportunities. China's "go-green" push has created a plenty of opportunities for green technologies and opened up a potentially huge market for green initiatives.
General Electric CEO Jeff R. Immelt recently announced that the company will invest more than $2 billion through 2012 to expand its R&D capability and set up joint ventures in China, the latest example in a string of investments beefed up by foreign companies to show their confidence in China's market.
The expo is the first state-level and high-profile international exposition initiated by the Chinese government for the green industry.
It will showcase cutting-edge green technologies as well as China's development and achievements in pushing for a more sustainable economy. The Expo, seen as a prelude to late November's UN Climate Summit in Mexico, will make itself a platform to show the world that China has made much progress toward developing green industries.
Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended at the ceremony and announced the Expo's opening.
