A magnitude-5.0 earthquake rocked the southern Philippines early Friday, the United Stated Geological Survey (USGS) said. No casualties were reported.
The quake, which struck at 4:03 a.m. local time from a depth of 94.8 kilometers, was traced some 95 kilometers northeast of Surigao, Mindanao region, the USGS said on its website.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology put the intensity of the quake at magnitude-5.1.
The Philippines sits in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area where continental plates collide producing frequent quakes and volcanic activities.
