A campaign sponsored by Brazil's Ministry of Environment reduced by 33 percent the consumption of plastic bags in 2010 compared with 2009 levels, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.
The ministry informs that the result is above the target of the campaign that was to achieve 10 percent reduction of plastic bags by the end of 2010, based on the year 2009, when 15 billion bags were produced in Brazil.
With this result, about five billion plastic bags were not consumed in a year and half of campaigning.
