An earthquake with magnitude of 6. 3 on the Richter scale jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Thursday, but there was no immediate report of casualties, officials said.
The quake struck at 21:39 p.m. Jakarta time (1439 GMT) with epicenter at 272 km northwest Tahuna of North Sulawesi and with the depth at 521 km under sea bed, an official of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported said.
The USGS reported on its website that the quake magnitude was measured stronger at 6.5.
A local Disaster Management Agency official told Xinhua by phone that no buildings were damaged and nobody was injured as the location of the quake was far from land and under deep sea.
