Beijing ranked fifth place in overall environmental competitiveness out of China's 31 provinces, municipalities and administrative regions, according to an official report released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Feb. 10.

Beijing dropped to 25th place in terms of environmental coordination competitiveness in 2010, though it ranked third in terms of ecological environment, according to the report.

In addition to the overall ranking, the report also has subentry rankings, which included competitiveness in five aspects: ecological environment, resources environment, environmental management, environmental impact and environmental coordination.

Beijing placed third in terms of ecological environment, which was closely related to the capital city's ecological construction.
