The Swedish government will invest 4 million kronor (700,000 U.S. dollars) to collect food waste and turn it into biogas, the agriculture minister said Thursday.
"The goal is to throw away as little as possible food but if one has to throw away, it should be reused to produce biogas. I hope the investment will help spread knowledge and stimulate work in reducing climate impact," Eskil Erlandsson, minister for agriculture, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the government also wants more farmers to grow energy-related crops so that more biogas can be produced.
