Four villages in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, have been named "demonstration villages in terms of sound environment" by the Sichuan provincial government.
In recent years. Wenjiang has attached great importance to construction of buildings with local characteristics, greenbelts among residential quarters and along rivers and lakes, according to district chief Xie Chao.
The district has also stressed its drinking water source protection as well as centralized treatment of domestic sewage, he said. Its efforts paid off when the district's Huatu, Huimin, Longxingchang and Tianyou villages were included on the list of Sichuan's 1,000 demonstration villages in terms of good environment last week.
