Chinese geopark to have 'sister park' in Australia

A geopark in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province will establish a relationship with an Australian geopark in October, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The Wudalianchi Geopark, located in the province's city of Heihe, is famed for its volcanoes and hot springs.
The park, along with the Yandang Mountain Geopark in east China's Zhejiang Province and the Leiqiong Geopark in south China's island province of Hainan, will establish a "sister park" relationship with Australia's Kanawinka Geopark at the World Geological Congress, which will be held in Japan this October.
The 1,060-square-km Wudalianchi Geopark is home to 14 volcanoes. Volcano eruptions in the park date back more than 2 million years.
