The National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast Saturday that rainstorms will pelt north China while scorching weather will hit the south in the coming several days.

Heavy rains are expected in the southeast of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, northern part of north China and western part of the northeast China in the next five days, with thunderstorms, gales or hails hitting at times, according to the NMC.

The weather agency also forecast temperatures to surge above 35 degrees Celsius over the coming three days in the Sichuan Basin, Chongqing Municipality, Guizhou Province, Hubei Province, most areas south of the Yangtze River and south China. Among these regions, the southwestern Sichuan Basin and Chongqing Municipality are expected to see temperatures climb to 38 or 39 degrees Celsius during the day.

The NMC urged people in these regions to cancel outdoor activities in the early afternoon when temperatures are the highest and advised outdoor workers to protect themselves from the hot weather. It also warned of fire risks triggered by power overloads.
