Natural disasters left 86 dead, four missing, and affected more than 90 million people across China in August, according to statistics released Friday.

Disasters inflicted direct economic losses of nearly 60 billion yuan (939 million U.S. dollars) and forced 2.2 million people to evacuate from their homes in the month, according to a statement from the National Commission for Disaster Reduction.

A total of 7.1 million hectares of crops were affected by disasters, with 962,600 ruined completely, the statement said.

In addition, more than 53,000 buildings collapsed, while 243,000 were damaged to a lesser extent by disasters, the statement said.

Lingering drought in southern China and typhoon were the main disasters in August.

Natural disasters left 204 people dead and 25 missing in July, as the month witnessed floods, gales, hailstorms, lightening strikes and droughts.
