A concentrated sulfuric acid leak accident occurred Monday in Hukou county of east Jiangxi province.

About 20 tonnes of concentrated sulfuric acid at Jiujiang Tianci New Material Ltd. in Jinshawan Industrial Park leaked at 12:50 p.m. and led to billowing acid smoke over the park, said the spokesman.

The company has implemented emergency measures to collect the acid with the help of local firefighters and environmental protection departments.

As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, about 18 tonnes of the acid had been transferred to other tanks or collected, but the heavy acid smoke remained hovering over the park.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
