The Negro River in Brazil's Amazonas state, the Amazon Rainforest region, is suffering the worst flood ever registered in the region, local authorities said on Wednesday.

According to Brazil's Geological Service, the level of the Negro River reached 29.78 meters on Tuesday, the highest in a century.

The service also foresees that the water level will keep rising and remain above 29 meters for more than two months.

The flood has prompted 53 out of the 62 municipalities in Amazonas state, including state capital Manaus, to declare a state of emergency, and has affected about 75,000 families.
