The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed 100 kinds of the most dangerous invasive species, and China has more than 50 of them, according to a report on the website of the People's Daily on the International Biodiversity Day, Tuesday.

The direct economic loss caused by invasive species reached 120 billion yuan (18.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011, the report said.

Vice minister of environmental protection Li Ganjie said at a national work conference on natural and ecological protection Tuesday that China will push for legislation on genetic resources, and conduct safety management on transgenic organisms and invasive alien species to preserve biological diversity.
