Feeble shocks of earthquake Monday shook Indian-controlled Kashmir and its adjoining areas, officials said.

According to the Disaster Management officials in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred early Monday at 4.49 a. m. local time.

The epicenter of the earthquake was around 458 km northeast of Srinagar city, according to Amir Ali, coordinator Disaster Management office in Srinagar. "The actual coordinates are located at 35.76 degrees North Latitude and 79.45 degrees East Longitude."

However, no reports of damage to property or loss of life were received.

Geologists say Indian-controlled Kashmir is located in a zone of high seismic activity.
