China's top meteorological authority said on Sunday that high temperatures are baking the nation's northern regions while southern provinces including Guangdong and Hainan are experiencing rainstorms.

According to the National Meteorological Center (NMC), some areas in Beijing and the neighboring city of Tianjin as well as in Hebei, Shandong and Henan provinces will see high temperatures between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon.

It also forecast that high temperatures will continue in these regions during the next several days.

Meanwhile, the NMC forecast heavy rain and storms will hit China's Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Hainan provinces on Sunday and Monday. Thunder and gales were also forecast in some parts of these provinces.
