Mild quake jolts northeast India

An earthquake of moderate intensity jolted India's northeast region Sunday afternoon, without any report of casualty or damage to property, said the Regional Seismological Center in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya state.

The quake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale occurred at around 15:00 p.m. local time (1130 GMT).

According to the Regional Seismological Center in Shillong, the epicenter was in Tezpur, the district headquarters of Sonitpur in Assam.

Besides Meghalaya and Nagaland, the other states where the tremors were felt included Manipur and Assam.
