A 100-meter section of a dike on the Yellow River collapsed Wednesday evening in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu province, local authorities said Thursday morning.

The collapse severed water pipes, affecting the availability of tap water, the city's flood control headquarters said.

No casualties have been reported.

Repair work on the pipes is under way, with tap water expected to return on Friday.
