"There is still the possibility of finding one or two white-flag dolphins on the Yangtze. We are looking forward to a miracle," said Wang Kexiong, deputy head of the survey team.

The white-flag dolphin is under first-class state protection and is among the 12 most endangered species in the world. In 2004, the body of a white-flag dolphin was found on the bank of the Yangtze, the last known proof of the species' existence.

The white-flag dolphin, dubbed "panda in water," is the world's rarest dolphin and lives only in China's Yangtze River. [Baidu]
