Top UN climate official Christiana Figueres said Friday at a press conference held in Doha, capital city of Qatar, that the latest UN climate change conference would result in significant progress.
"The AWG, the working group on Kyoto Protocol, on the convention and on the Durban platform, will be producing some new documentation," said Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Figueres said the AWG-KP will produce some fresh text by the end of Saturday when they should be pretty evident by that time which issues can be continuing to bargain at the negotiate level and which issues need to be rising to the higher political level next week. Meanwhile, The AWG-LCA would be having a stock-taking plenary on Saturday afternoon as well, and would be bringing together all of the miscellaneous elements of the text in to a collection from Saturday, and that would also be the material the delegates taking home with them on Saturday.
The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action, includes the Green Climate Fund, an Adaptation Committee designed to improve the coordination of adaptation actions on a global scale, and a Technology Mechanism, which are to become fully operational in 2012.
On the question that why the countries act so slow in combating the severe climate change, Figueres said it is only when everyone in the word to assume responsibility and act "impatiently, " can the problem be solved.
