Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Ma Keqing on Friday handed over 200,000 U.S. dollars in cash to the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines to help people affected by Typhoon Bopha (locally known as Pablo).

Earlier, the Red Cross Society of China had also donated 30,000 U.S. dollars to the Philippine Red Cross.

Typhoon Bopha, believed to be the most devastating typhoon in the Philippines for more than two decades, battered parts of southern Philippines in early December. The confirmed death toll from Typhoon Bopha rose to 1,050 by Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

The number of missing individuals slightly declined from 841 to 838 as the three missing were found dead in southern province of Compostela Valley.
