5.6 magnitude earthquake jolts NW Pakistan

An earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted northwestern region of Pakistan on Sunday, local media and meteorological department said.

According to the report released by Pakistan Meteorological Department, the earthquake jolted northwestern region of the country, including the parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Officials and local media said no immediate report of any loss of life or property was received so far from the affected areas.

The earthquake was felt in the country's northwestern provincial capital of Peshawar and its adjoining areas of Malakand division and tribal region bordering Afghanistan

The tremors caused panic among the people in the affected areas as people rushed out of their houses and shops to avoid any building collapse.

The epicenter, with a depth of 81Km, was declared in Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region.
