A wild Siberian tiger attacked livestock in the Huanan forest zone of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province for the fourth time on Monday over the recent two weeks, China News Agency reports.
"It is the fourth attack on cattle by the same Siberian tiger, and judging from the footprint at the scene, presumably a tigress committed the attack", said Sun Haiyi, the deputy director at the Heilongjiang Provincial Wildlife Research Institute.
Moreover, according to tiger's habits, continuously attacking cattle within several days is more like a predatory practice or playing act, Sun added.
Sun Haiyi said the Siberian Tiger's appearance in the Huanan Forest zone means the activity area of Chinese wild Siberian tiger has moved 200 kilometers closer to the inland from the Russian border and East Wandashan Mountain Area.
In recent years, Heilongjiang has substantially reduced timber harvest and relocated 120,000 people from its forest zones. Along with the expansion of no man's land and the restoration of vegetation and wildlife, more Siberian tiger activities have been detected in the region.
