Parents can now learn about the air quality in classrooms by using their smartphones to scan QR codes for the latest readings.

A school in Shanghai became the first in the city to have installed electronic data plates, which allow parents to check the environment quality by scanning the QR codes.

At the Anshan Junior High School, parents accessed a detailed report of environment in some of the classrooms after scanning the code yesterday.

The report showed the redecoration date of a meeting room in the school. It also revealed that the floor, wall, paints, desks and chairs had all passed comprehensive environment tests.

Summer vacation is usually a time for schools and kindergartens to refurbish and carry out repairs.
