Sewage from half of the 156 sea outlets in China failed to reach the standards required for pollution control.

According to ocean surveillance conducted from August to November, last year, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southwestern China, performed worst in the country, where 14 out 15 outlets failed to meet requirements, and 93.3 percent were overpolluted.

The rate of over-polluted sewage was 87.5 percent in Zhejiang, 60.9 percent in Liaoning, 47 percent in Fujian, 32 percent in Hebei and 21.1 percent in Hainan. Pollutants discovered were mostly phosphorous, suspended substances and chemical oxygen demand.

Other than the sewage pollution, the environmental surveillance showed improved results in ocean dumping areas, and offshore oil and gas areas, better radiant conditions, red tides and green tides.
