Shanghai prepares for arrival of Typhoon Matmo

Shanghai flood control authorities are preparing for the approaching Typhoon Matmo, which is expected to bring thundershowers with strong winds, officials said yesterday.

Typhoon Matmo is forecast to land in eastern Taiwan early today and make a second landfall in central Fujian Province and southern Zhejiang Province this afternoon or evening.

It will influence Shanghai weather tomorrow and Friday. The Shanghai Flood Control Headquarters issued a warning yesterday, ordering coastal areas and Chongming Island to evacuate people working offshore and telling ships to stay in harbor.
