Typhoon Kalmaegi (local name Luis) made a landfall in northern Philippines on Sunday afternoon and is expected to remain in the country until Tuesday, the state weather agency said.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 160 kph, Kalmaegi struck the vicinity of Cagayan and Isabela provinces at about 5:00 p.m. local time, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The Public Storm Warnings were hoisted in 22 provinces in northern Philippines.
Residents in 11 provinces in northern Philippines and Metro Manila were also warned of possible flooding.
