China's weather observatory on Monday issued an orange alert, the second most severe, for typhoon Kalmaegi.

It is expected to land somewhere between Yangjiang in Guangdong Province and Wanning in Hainan Province on Tuesday afternoon, said the National Meteorological Center.

The center of the typhoon was located abut 975 kilometers to the southeast of Leizhou, Guangdong Province, at 5 a.m. Monday, moving at 30 km per hour toward the northwest

The typhoon is expected to bring strong winds and rainstorms in southern Guangdong and Hainan.

The observatory advised less outdoor activities and warned against flooding and mud-rock flows.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
