A watermelon grows on a vine trained to climb upwards in a huge 28-bay greenhouse operated by Elion in the Kubuqi Desert in Inner Mongolia. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuces, beans, and various types of melons are all grown in this greenhouse using organic farming practices. The greenhouse is also home to a colony of bees which pollinate the plants. [Photo by Sarah Bellemare/China.org.cn] |
