The 2015 Eco Forum Global Annual Conference, which is set to be held from June 25 to 28 in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province, will help build a green China and promote global sustainable development, the forum's organizers announced at a press conference on May 22 in Beijing.

"This year's annual conference, themed 'Embracing A New Era of Eco-civilization: New Agendas, New Normal, New Actions,' will focus on discussions of the construction of eco-civilization for a beautiful China and global sustainable development," said Zhang Xinsheng, president of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and co-founder and executive chairman of the Eco Forum conference.
During the three-day event, participants from around the world, including political leaders, business people and academic experts will gather in Guiyang to discuss how to improve the global governance system as it relates to sustainable development in order to achieve the green transformation of global economic development patterns, Zhang said.
Around 30 themed forums will be hosted during the event. They will address the global efforts to cope with climate change and ecological security, the prospects of United Nations climate negotiations, green employment opportunities, new structures in the global energy market and the future of sustainable energy, the Sino-Swiss Dialogue 2015 and the construction of a sustainable financial system.
Most notably, this year's forum will feature three high-level forums on green financing and industrial transformation, climate change and sustainable development goals, and the Green Silk Road and urbanization.
"This year's discussions are of great significance for global sustainable development, as the United Nations is creating new development goals for the period of 2015 to 2030," Zhang noted.
The year 2015 marks the end date for the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. Much more attention should be paid to gross ecological product, or GEP, since sustainable development goals now dominate the global development agenda.
China, which is drawing up its 13th Five Year Plan, should also attach great importance to the development of the green economy to ensure economically, socially and environmentally sustainable development.
"Guizhou has achieved great progress in the construction of eco-civilization," Mu Degui, vice governor of Guizhou, asserted. "The province is boosting industrial structural adjustments to achieve a win-win result for economic development and ecological protection."
