Weather forecasters yesterday warned of the possibility of storms hitting Shanghai later in the week as typhoons loom just off the nation's east coast.
Two tropical cyclones, Chan-Hon and Linfa, which formed in the Pacific and have been moving northwestward, could have some impact on the city, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
"People should be aware of the risk, but it is too early to give a precise forecast. There is a fair chance the typhoons will change direction," it said.
Regardless of whether or not the storms arrive, this week will be wet as the plum rain season continues to thrive.
Today and tomorrow are likely to see plenty of showers, while the mercury is set to drop to a high of about 23 degrees Celsius.
The rains will continue through the week, but from Wednesday onward the temperature will be in the high 20s, the bureau said.
