Saussurea obvallata grows in places with an elevation of 3,200 to 4,700 meters and usually can be found in stony hillsides, alpine meadows and rock crevices of creeks. With a function of treating rheumatoid arthritis and alpine discomfort, it still has not been artificially cultivated at present.
