Fourteen people have been killed and thousands were evacuated as Typhoon Goni brought high winds, landslide and flooding to the country, the state disaster management agency said on Sunday.

At least 11 people were injured and three others remained missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Nearly 33,000 individuals from over 7,500 families were evacuated in five regions in northern Philippines due to the inclement weather.

NDRRMC estimated that the cost of damage to infrastructure and agriculture have reached to over 124.8 million pesos (2.70 million U.S. dollars).

Some villages in northern provinces of Ilocos Sur and Oriental Mindoro were isolated due to collapse of a bridge and sudden increase of river water, respectively.

The state weather forecasting agency said typhoon Goni, with maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 170 kph, has maintained its strength as it moves farther away from the country.

It is expected to be outside the Philippines by Monday afternoon.
