Beijing's Chaoyang district will be working to clean the foul-smelling waters of its 11 rivers by removing trash and establishing wetlands to filter the water, according to a media report.
The Chaoyang Water Authority was quoted by the Beijing News as saying that the district will clean 12.7 kilometers of watercourses this year by removing garbage, dredging and restoring the ecological environment for the rivers.
By the end of this year, water in these rivers will meet the assessment standard for clean cross-section water, the authority said.
In addition, by the end of this year, the district will clean 46 km of smelly waters, while another 55 km of these waters will be cleaned and restored next year, the authority said.
