Storm Katie hit southern Britain, bringing gusts of up to 168 kph in England and Wales. Over 80 flights were diverted or canceled and major bridges closed.

More than 20 flights bound for Gatwick Airport, London's second-largest international airport, were diverted on Monday, BBC reported.

Heathrow Airport, London's major international airport, has also canceled over 60 flights, the report said.

The Met Office, Britain's national weather service, issued for London and southeastern England an amber warning for winds, the second most severe one on its four-scale warning system.

At least 2,000 homes have lost power and 23 flood warnings are in place.
