The death toll from disasters caused by heavy rain has risen to 40 with six missing in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the provincial government said on Wednesday.
From Thursday to Monday, downpours caused by the remnants of tropical storm Kammuri struck 11 prefectures or cities in the province, triggering landslides, floods and mud-rock flows.

As of 6 PM on Tuesday, the disasters had left 40 dead, six missing and 42 injured with 1.25 million people affected, the Yunnan Civil Affairs Department said.
More than 10,000 rooms in houses were destroyed and 18,000 damaged. About 16,000 people were evacuated. The disaster-triggered losses of 746 million yuan (US$108 million).
In the worst-hit Zhaotong City, the disaster left eight people dead, hurt the livelihoods of 280,000 people and caused 154 million yuan in loss, a spokesman of the city's emergency response office said.
The persistent rain triggered 32 landslides and mud-rock flows in Zhaotong, threatening the safety of 952 people in 205 households.
It also caused floods in 11 counties, destroying more than 15,000 houses and 13,000 hectares of crops.
Facilities for power, communication, transport and water conservancy were damaged and 11 schools were affected in the disaster.
The city government had resettled 8,479 evacuated people. Repair efforts continued for damaged highways.
The provincial and local governments in the stricken areas had allocated a total of 10 million yuan in relief, both in funds and materials like tents, quilts and clothing.
