Japan's Aid to China for SARS Totals 1.76 Billion Yen

Japan on Friday approved an additional 1.5 billion yen (US$12.7 million) in aid for China to deal with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Kyodo News reported.   

This brings the total of Japan's SARS-related assistance to China to 1.76 billion yen (US$14.9 million).

The 1.5 billion yen in aid will be used to purchase medical equipment, Kyodo said.

Japan has also sent health experts to Beijing to help efforts to treat and prevent SARS.
