Shanghai has applied to the Chinese Central Government to build a Disneyland, and the best location should be Pudong New District, mayor Han Zheng said on Thursday.
It would be the third Disneyland in Asia after Japan and Hong Kong.
"We have applied to the National Development and Reform Commission, but so far we haven't received any document of approval," Han told reporters on the sidelines of the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
"Any big-scale project of this kind has to get Central Government approval, and Shanghai will abide by the Central Government's decision," he said, adding that the location of the proposed park was not yet fixed.
However, "the best choice is Pudong," he said.
