The Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) will elect the 16th Central Committee during the upcoming National Congress.
The preparatory meeting of the 16th National Congress of the CYLC was held here Monday, presided over by Lu Hao, first secretary of the Secretariat of the 15th CYLC Central Committee.
The meeting passed the agenda of the 16th national congress, which included a revision of the charter of the youth league and the election of the new central committee.
Founded in 1922, the CYLC is a mass youth organization under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and plays a supporting role to the CPC.
The number of CYLC members reached 75.439 million at the end of2007, up 2.64 percent from 2006. About one in four, or 24.8 percent, of Chinese youth were its members, according to the CYLC Central Committee.
