The Communist Party of China (CPC) said Friday the "mission to manage the Party strictly has never been so arduous and urgent" as a key session of the CPC Central Committee closed.

According to a communique published at the closing of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, many problems exist inside the Party that run counter to new circumstances and the Party's character, which "are severely weakening the Party's creativity, unity and effectiveness in dealing with these problems."

The communique says these drawbacks were also "severely" harming the ties of flesh and blood between the Party and people and the strengthening of the Party's rule.

The communique says deep changes in the world, the country and the Party have raised new requirements for Party building and all Party members should be aware and vigilant about the problems and solve them as quickly as possible.

It says the challenges the Party faces in reform, market economy and exterior environment are "long-term, complicated and arduous."

It urged all Party members to be always prepared for dangers in times of peace and push forward Party building work to ensure the Party's "backbone" position in people's minds when coping with various domestic and overseas challenges.

It urged members to be innovative, creative and never form ossified way of thinking and never stand still.

The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee was held from Sept. 15 to 18 in Beijing.
